Rest In Peace, Kazuki Takahashi...

How to start...I woke in the morning and the first news on twitter that I got was Kazuki Takahashi passed away at 60 years old...it took time to process still is, the whole day was me digest this terrible news about a terrible loss, that left a legacy and messages in his mangá.

Kazuki Takahashi was a mangaka that loves mangas, making them, loved games very much, so much so that he wrote and draw a story about games, Yu-Gi-Oh! which technically translates King of Games where the main concept of the mangá was about battles through games instead of fighting and physical violence, with it's unique and distinctive art style.

The main story was more than one story...a freshman high school boy named Yugi that looked like a child and avoided in engaging with the class and was shy, whose classmates were Anzu - his childhood friend who dreams to study abroad to become a dancer, Jounouchi and Honda who were initially bullies, Jounouchi was a former delinquent due to his family problems, Honda had his own, became friends with Yugi, he awaken an ancient spirit from completing a ancient puzzle to later be discovered he was a deceased pharaoh who lost his memories to then start a quest to recover his memories, Kaiba Seto and Mokuba lost their parents and sent to an orphanage to later be adopted by an abusive foster father Gozaburo Kaiba, even more came and had their story...Mai, Hanasaki, Ryota, Marik, Ishizu, Pegasus, just to mention a few...

The manga ended with Atem, the deceased pharaoh, who moved forward into afterlife...Yugi moving ahead forging his own future.
The Story ended in Dark Side of Dimensions on similar note.

The legacy we see in spin-offs, the trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh!, that many still play today, part of childhoods, adolescence as well that touched the hearts of many, including mine.

Even after when he was finished, he still made games, wrote and draw "The Comiq", he draw a graphic novel of Spider-Man and Iron Man called "Secret Reverse".

It's pretty obvious that I am a big fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! or else I wouldn't be willing to create this blog to eventually make analysis of the manga, the franchise is my favourite, the manga is my favourite of all time, the anime as well (I got to know through the portuguese dub on a kids show in the beginning of my adolescence, when I was 14), Kazuki Takahashi is my favourite mangaka, artist and storyteller of all time...so...

Thank You and Rest in Peace, Kazuki Takahashi...

Thoughts and Observations of Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga Series Masterpost

Since there is many posts of my analysis over the course of 5 years and 5 months, I think is around hundreds... I'm starting the process of organization, re-arrangement, reformulation of most posts...

ponybooks.gif

As I re-upload images to the currently image host I'm using in the missing Battle City Arc posts, DDM, then will be Duelist Kingdom and lastly the early which more episodic arcs, as I do this, I will keep post links, including updated ones, but only in this post, you will be able to tell when is new updates...The orders of the links of the posts will start from Memory World Arc and upwards, the new ones will always be above the previous posted links.
You might wonder why I'm troubling myself with this, it's because before I go into analysis of Transcend Game One Shot and Dark Side of Dimensions movie, I want my analysis of the manga to be polished first since my manga analysis posts will be constantly mentioned, specially the movie (so yeah, the Transcend Game and the movie Dark Side of Dimension is literally the expansion of the manga).

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.34 Part 3/3 (Memories Being Tampered)

We have reached the last part of this volume 3 of Memory World (Millenium World), we're getting closer to the end of this series, by the end of this month, it is very likely that I will start volume 4, however is divided in 4 parts, If I keep up the pace I have been making, I might finish it by the end of July or early August (I hope is the case because it would be preferable this way).
Battle City whole arc (except the prologue) and Memory World's image panels ensembles addresses has been updated.

Plot Summary:

Dark Yugi is very surprised seeing the gang (I refer to them as such, because it's easier), Yugi being pharaoh's host, he gives a bit of boost in Dark Yugi's Ba gauge to be capable of summoning Sun Dragon Ra and successfully defeats thief Bakura, Dark Yugi turns to his friends asking why and how did they get to where he is, their friends informs him about their mission...(the reason why they are in the world of memory).

With the success of thief Bakura defeat, something is starting to awaken inside the world of memory and priest Akhenaden...the darkness of priest Akhenaden starts to emerge in priest Akhenaden psyche, later revealed that is acquainted with Yami Bakura...then is revealed that Dark Yugi's memories have been tampered by Dark Yugi's friends and made an alteration of the true events in the past and the dark Akhenaden tells that he is about to take care of it...and he does by making the time world of memory going backwards...from which point we don't know...

Key Points:

image.jpg image.png

He is very surprised that they're in the world of memory...
This scene might be a bit confusing at first to explain to yourself and understand because of their lines, to see where it connects in their words, let's start with what Yugi says to Dark Yugi first:

"Half of your soul is still with me...!!"

It's a very strange and confusing affirmation at first, because how can someone's soul half be within someone, with Dark Yugi next thought, best way to start to explain this is the world of memory being a dimension inside the millenium puzzle, both sharing a body and mind through the millenium puzzle, because of their very close and special bond between spirit and host, plus if notice as Yugi said this and give his boost, the millenium puzzle of Dark Yugi as pharaoh started to shine...then Dark Yugi thinks:

"I can feel it...the presence of my partner...the other soul within me!!"

That's a way of phrasing meaning just as Yugi, within Dark Yugi/pharaoh soul there is the other half of Yugi's soul, due to their strong bond, as for the presence, why they didn't felt it before Yugi entered and started to enter the world of memory, the before was because it was impossible for them to sense each other since they were in different dimensions, Yugi in the physical world then inside the maze of the millenium puzzle, when Yugi entered, there was a long distance gap between where they were in the city and the palace and Dark Yugi was always inside the world of memory in the palace, only time he sensed, it was only a little when Yugi and the gang were at the entrance of the palace but not concrete enough to be sure, now here in this moment, they feel it much more easily each others presences, because they were usually side by side, in a way is the reverse, before it was Dark Yugi was the ghost and Yugi being the host, in this situation, their roles seem to have switched (but didn't really).

Problems you might have run into...

It's related to the panels ensembles...the ones from tinypic I know for quite some time (but I intended to do this by August when I have to reorganise from the early volumes to dungeon dice monsters), what I'm talking about is from the whole Battle City to the first 2 volumes of Memory World, there is problem in reading the images, because their addresses were changed in the image host website I uploaded, so I have to update one full story arc and the first two volume of story arc I'm in now, fortunately is just images, if was the text included, I would be crying...but is still going to be quite a pain.

the reasons why it happened, I don't blame the website, from what I can tell is related to political and judicial problems that we have been facing lately about the internet in recent years.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.32 Part 1/4 (Memory World Prologue)

Back on track, it took me longer than I expected to write this, not because of the number of panels, how the weeks have been going, lots of things have been slowing me down, which happens, many times...After this post, so when I will have time to post the next one (since scanning the pages I want is almost over..., so then I edit), and all I have to do is write.
Plot Summary:

Memory World Arc begins with Sugoroku Mutou (Yugi's grandfather) in his early fourties around the 60s in the Valley of the Kings accompanied by two siblings grave robbers, they speak about a specific tomb where the legendary game called "shadow games" happens, it is a tomb of a nameless pharaoh...
They rest a little for when the night comes, so they won't be seen at night to enter this royal tomb...
When they enter the tomb, in the start, not much happens, until they arrive at the entrance of a labyrinth, one of the grave robbers unlock a hidden trap, the entrance is closed, with spikes and the same for the walls side by side of the entrance and starts moving on it's own, so they're forced to enter the labyrinth with moving statues if you make the wrong move, you die or severely injured, if is the right one, it stays still.

Sugoroku and one grave robber survived, the other was killed by the moving statues for rushing, all that is left is to walk over some stone slabs laid down with sculptings of monsters as a bridge, Sugoroku passes by peacefully, when he is almost reaching the end, the grave robber from far behind who hadn't entered the bridge yet, shot Sugoroku on the shoulder from a gun he was carrying hidden, he entered this bridge and was swallowed by one of the monsters summoned from the stone slabs on it's own, while Sugoroku hanging to his life on the edge of the monsters's stone slabs bridge, when he wonders if this is the end, then an image or spirit of a young man who looked like a pharaoh who called Sugoroku a different name and "help" to get up and he reached the last room with the millenium puzzle inside the golden box...

30 years later or so, Sugoroku thinking about Yugi's fate and role with the millenium puzzle, it's revealed that after school, Yugi is going to the museum, so that Dark Yugi can start his quest to recover his lost memories, as he thinks about this, Yugi's grandfather enters his room and asks to see one more time to see the god cards, so there is a bit of a discussion to an important conversation (which  Sugoroku reveals he knew all along about the pharaoh soul that Yugi is hosting and his grandfather giving a warning and advice to Yugi about his role not only as a vessel of the pharaoh soul but also as the chosen one by the Millenium Puzzle...).

Key Points:

image.png image.png

This is happening 30 years before the present now, when Sugoroku was in his early forties, this is pretty much about how Sugoroku Mutou got the Millenium Puzzle backstory, I think is a great way to open into the journey to the quest of the lost memories of the nameless pharaoh.

The conversation about the special tomb, the one as referred as that it has "shadow games", the mention of this team of archaeologists that this grave robber spoken about is probably the same one Sugoroku mentions in the beginning of the series, they're going to the Valley of the Kings, the graveyard of pharaohs of Egypt New Kingdom period, the way one of the escorts speaks of the special tomb as "that tomb", it implies the name of the pharaoh of this tomb is unknown, because no archaeologist was able to reach the point of where it reveals his name...

image.png image.png

I have to say, Sugoroku in his forties was pretty handsome, you can see some similarities to Dark Yugi and Yugi as well, but his expressions is more Dark Yugi's inclined.

These two men escorting Sugoroku are grave robbers, because of the stories of mentioned tomb, no other grave robber ever tried since many have died already, including archaeologists, so they're only going with Sugoroku Mutou to rob the tomb, because Sugoroku being a professional gamer and him being interested in this game called "shadow games" inside this tomb, in order words, he will be the one doing the games leading them to the hidden treasure, you can tell in the panel when he says he is not interested in the treasure, you can tell he is bit suspicious of the grave robbers escorting him...you see the one who have been silent, the one his right side is hiding something prepared for Sugoroku...

Blog news and suggestions

Blog News:

I am almost finished re-reading for the second time (I said first I would re-read twice), going to re-read the ceremonial duel in a while (in one hour and half or two), then I put bookmarks on the pages I considered most important, scan them, edit them from pages to panels I consider important, I do edit on Photoshop (I use this software a lot not just for this, wallpapers, avatars, etc).
Usually this process takes 1 day and while writing the draft takes longer, but this time will be a little different, since I want to do it justice, the process explained above will be the longer this time, because the format for this arc will be each volume will be divided in 2 or 3 or 4 parts/posts, depending on the intensity and information, it will still have plot summary+key points.

Suggestions about the manga series:

I found something that might be helpful to those who may not have enough money, in case thinking that collecting 38 volumes would take long or don't have enough space for it, I'm sure many of you know about 3 in 1 volumes editions for Yu-Gi-Oh! (it's basically 3 volumes of a manga series in one book), but there is usually the problem about the shipping costs when buying online, so what if I told you I know a online bookstore that sells worldwide with no shipping costs and is usually cheap?

If you're from Europe and the european country currency is → € , then you're in for a treat, each of the 3 in 1 costs around 10-14€ (to give you a scale, but in the website if you use a different currency, you can change without paying) , so far there is 11 volumes of these "3 in 1", volume 12 will come out next month, 7th November 2017, the last one being volume 13 will be out in 10th February 2018.

Book Depository: Yu-Gi-Oh! 3-in-1 Editions

The only one downside from this online bookstore is that sometimes takes a bit of time, the maximum 1 month for the delivery to arrive (I think it happens in special occasions like the holidays and stuff), the fastest has been 1 week and 1 day for me at least, lately it has been 1 week and 2 weeks (the most common time it takes to arrive).

If you intend to buy it from this online bookstore, I have some advices to give you:
- to properly count when it arrives, don't include the business days, you have to pay attention to two emails, "the order confirmation" and "your order is on it's way", is the last one you have to count to 1 week or two onward (do not include weekends since there is countries where mails doesn't come on Saturdays);

- sometimes you pay VAT, but max is 2€ and minimum is less than 1€, but since they give you the price with the VAT before even buying, so do not worry and free shipping...;

-In each envelope they always offer you a bookmark from the website.

Unboxing : Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Side of Dimensions DVD (Manga UK)

Sorry for taking so long to show this...it did arrive in 9th June from Amazon...

The quality is ok, from my smartphone, sorry for being, um, stretched...  I have forgotten to point something that I noticed only later after I have done the video, you can actually remove the cover, with the backside having Kaiba and his "alternative Blue Eyes White Dragon" and frontside being the cover and back cover (I'll scan it after I'm done with the Manga and start moving to Dark Side of Dimensions).

Before finishing this post, I would like to confirm to you that the subtitles are pretty fine and has with the characters original names and everything (I don't know about the english dub, but because I find it cringy, I didn't go check it. But I really like the cover, it's very nice, I don't about the Obelisk card though, so it will remain inside the DVD, wish would have been "Mahado" card, oh well.

To end this post, "Thoughts and Observations" about Dark Yugi VS Kaiba, will be divided in two posts/parts, take some time to be published, specially Part 1, since I still have visitors at my home.

See Ya Next Post!

My First Impressions of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Side of Dimesions (SPOILER FREE)

I won't write any details not even what happened in the story, you have the synopsis around the internet, this just what I think about the movie in general and to how much extends to the main story in general of Yu-Gi-Oh!
I watched in japanese with english subtitles, around the internet but I will buy the DVD licensed by Manga UK...
I think the movie was quite amazing but it has it's drawbacks which left me a little disappointed and left a bit more to be desired.
The story was pretty much the best part of the movie, to anyone who have watched the anime japanese version with subtitles will get the gist of the story in general, but the ones who read the manga of the series on the other hand, the experience of the movie will be extended, the movie is definitely is the expansion of the story of the manga as it been advertised, you can really see and feel the vibe that it was Kazuki Takahashi telling the story, it's to be assured is his style as well.

Now the duels, they were great except how they ended...
Character development felt unfinished, specially for Kaiba (his over the top personality is hilarious but his narrow-mindset pisses me off).
The ending was good but...it was what made things feel and left unfinished.

The spoiler version will be in "Thoughts and Observations", since is the expansion of the manga together with the one-shot Transcend Game, It will be then when I go in detail after I'm done with the manga, since I will reference a lot of my posts about the manga in Movie Thoughts and Observations.

I have some bad news

Remember 2 posts prior I said I would scan the digital version as I buy it?
Well, I won't be able to because being european, doesn't allow me to access it, also the credit card I use is VISA Electron, I tried Kindle version but is US only, even if I wanted the UK ones (which has the first 7 volumes), it is still UK only. Through paypal it comes to a similar problem with the VISA Electron.
I think this is very unfair to be honest, I was about to buy it.
I won't be able to scan it anymore ( as I've said before I don't want to scan my printed versions copies, and damages a little bit and bit loose, 4 pages of Volume 8 is loose and was ironically Pegasus's death scene), unless it's specific pages to approach certain scenes, but I will still keep writing my interpretations and observations of the manga series.

However I can give you a nice download source:
http://ygomangadatabase.dreamwidth.org/

This is someone who collected over the years, so there is some nice quality and low quality, but still readable.
for anyone in US and CA, you can buy it, in Nook, the digital version is cheaper than amazon by the way, and there is NOOK for PC and tablet, if you do, it would be nice of you to scan it.

for anyone who have read the manga through the source I gave you, but want to reread again, buy the printed version or digital version...
I think is such a shame such a good manga not having better quality in scans, I wish I could continue scanning the printed version, but I can't, I have all 38 volumes, I was able to buy them at a one-of-lifetime chances from 1 month of internship money in a course I was in, I don't get this chances often, best 255€ I ever spent ( I received 670€ btw), so I want them to endure and alot...
digital versions you don't have to worry about damaging the pages or anything, if I could buy it, I would buy it as well.
So I'm sorry I can help you, but the scans in YGO Media will remain though...

next post will be the continuation of thoughts and observations...

Blog News: Some Changes in the blog and download links

Hellos!! It has been a long time since last time I have wrote here in this blog...
Busy years, one of them were games investment and small project that didn't work the way I'd wish to, so I wanna take a break on this one from games...

I'm sorry for being in a hiatus for a long time, so I'll continue where I left off.
This is when I'll announce a few changes on this blog! the download links have been changed, no need to worry about passwords downloads, must have been annoying, right? so you're downloading in cbr files.
Now the scans, it will change, from scanning my print YGO mangas, damaged them a bit, specially volume 8 duelist, so I'll change the platform... they will be digital manga from 9 and to the last volume, I don't know about Yu-Gi-Oh! R...I will see about that...
another thing, I'm finally watching Yu-Gi-Oh! GX but subbed, I finally could find all complete japanese with english subs to download, because it was hard over the years, now I can catch up efficiently... I'm on the 3rd season, almost half way through of the season, now as for my thoughs on it so far will posted next post.
