Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 6 (Battle City Tag Duel: Teamwork and Power of Unity)

The summary will be small since what is happening is a duel, but there is important moments to highlight, it's Kaiba character arc and development, the key points will have plenty to write...
Where we are in volumes, volume duelist 14 to 15 (volume 21 to 22 in japanese print version), yeah, we are getting closer to "that" duel (I'm looking forward to write my thoughts and observations about  "the duel", they're one of the four most emotionally intense duels (with Dark Yugi/Yugi VS Pegasus, Dark Yugi VSDark Marik and the Ceremonial Duel).

Plot Summary:

The duel starts off with Mask of Light going first then Dark Yugi and after is Mask of Darkness and lastly Kaiba alternate turns being a tag duel, they start being somewhat in trouble because the main characters's opponents have a good teamwork, Mask of Light focus on spell and trap cards and Mask of Darkness to summon, be the offence and defense.
Kaiba being a stubborn and prideful loner, refuses to teamwork with Dark Yugi and wants to defeat his opponents by himself, as they get cornered, Kaiba has no choice but to teamwork with Dark Yugi, at the beginning he misses the point but thanks to Dark Yugi he learns fairly quickly what teamwork is, once he understands it, Kaiba and Dark Yugi are on equal ground with Mask tag team driving towards victory on Dark Yugi and Kaiba side.
It's obvious the focus in this duel in terms of character development is Kaiba.

Key Points:

image.png image.png

As much as I get Kaiba being more of an individualist (I'm one myself), I do understand Kaiba to some extent but isn't exactly for the same reasons, but I can acknowledge teamwork when is necessary even though isn't my style, which is what Kaiba learns in this duel about himself and teamwork, I can relate with him a little on this part.
Kaiba is missing the point in this duel having an individualist mindset and being single minded as well all his life, but there is reasons for it, not just Gozaburo and his parents's deaths plus their uncle and aunt that drives him to be extremely individualist, this tag duel teaming up Dark Yugi is one of the most important lessons to him plus the ones against Dark Yugi's duels.
By the way, I always laugh at the panel when Dark Yugi asks to team up with eye signal, Kaiba expresses his thought as the most ridiculous idea he ever thought or heard.
Another note to remember, when Kaiba's eyes are like this is when he is consumed by his ego, when he is actually thinking clearly is different from these panels above.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 5 (Battle City Break Part 4)

Yes, there will be a lot of battle city breaks, because there is a lot to observe most of the time and we are still in volume duelist 14 (vol.21 in japanese print version).
The summary will be small and not much to comment, in this post and next one, Kaiba will have a bit more focus than Dark Yugi since Kaiba will be developing himself a bit due to his character arc.

Plot Summary:

We left off at Marik just arriving at the aquarium with Bakura seriously hurt.
Jounouchi and the others (Sugoroku and Anzu) leave the aquarium, they find a stranger (Marik) holding Bakura who is very injured in his left arm to the point he is very weak and about to faint, they get worried and all of a sudden they are ambushed by a gang of a young boy whose duel disk has been stolen by Yami Bakura (poor Bakura...), Marik shields Bakura to protect him and takes the punch instead (takes the chance to gain their trust), Jounouchi gets irritated and being good at fighting, "took care" of them easily.
Sugoroku takes Bakura to the hospital through a taxi cab, while Marik stays with Jounouchi and Anzu, he introduces himself as Namu, Marik starts to prepare to brainwash them...
Kaiba and Dark Yugi are beating a bunch of ghouls on the way as a tag team, ghouls warns Marik that they can't stop them anymore, so Marik calls a special tag team to go after Kaiba and Dark Yugi, self-proclaiming to himself that their decks serves to defeat god cards to buy time to brainwash Jounouchi and Anzu.
The special tag force starts going after them, one of them throws a device at Kaiba's duel disk as it blocks it's function and another one shows up who has the key to unlock the device and blackmailing them, Kaiba and Dark Yugi has no choice but to follow them...
They reach the top of a skyscraper, this special tag force introduce themselves as one being Mask of Darkness(MD) and the other the Mask of Light(ML), the tag duel is about to start...

Key Points:

image.png
image.png

Nice excuse, Marik...I feel so sorry for Ryou to be in this situation, I think it shows the difference between Yugi and Ryou as hosts, Yugi at the beginning of the series like Ryou at this moment, Ryou doesn't remember the times Yami Bakura was taking over, in Yugi's case he didn't remember until the time of Monster World arc, Yugi was able to be more gradually aware what was happening when Dark Yugi took over, it became stronger in the duel against Kaiba, Mai and Pegasus in Duelist Kingdom, to a point Yugi could decide whether to watch what was going on or not when he didn't wish to interfere strongly (ex: Anzu and Dark Yugi "date" and other instance), the same is for Dark Yugi (ex: Dark Yugi didn't watch Yugi reading the newspaper about Egypt exhibition and Ishizu, he didn't knew about the newspaper article), but Dark Yugi could do it for much longer time than Yugi due to building the millenium puzzle for 8 years had an influence.
There is another difference between Yugi and Ryou, the strength of heart, specially right now, Yugi is much stronger than Ryou Bakura, Ryou stagnated the moment he let Yami Bakura take over and manipulate him in his development, on the other hand, Yugi just kept evolving and still is, the more aware he becomes,..

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 4 (Jounouchi VS Ryota)

Before getting to the summary, I'd like first for you to know where we are in volumes and it's direction, since the next duel starts at the end of one of the volumes and continues in the next, we are at the end of Volume Duelist 13 to 14 (volume 20 to 21 in Japanese volume), this will happen quite often in the future...
I'll warn you when we're going to the next volume.

Plot Summary:

We left off with Jounouchi challenging Ryota and him accepting it and the encounter between Yami Bakura and Marik.
First the duel, both players bet two puzzle cards and rare cards, Jounouchi already starts making mistakes because he isn't properly focused for trying too hard to look cool (getting carried away with his recent victories) and Ryota is dominating the duel, once Jounouchi starts being more attentive in the duel, it shows these two players/duelists are on equal ground, so there is a lot of back and forth and what marks the difference between them was their experience, Ryota being a more experienced player than Jounouchi, at the end of the duel, Ryota had the option to prolong the match but he chose to stand with his favourite card to the end, with this, the duel is finished with Jounouchi's victory, now he is qualified to the finals.

The meeting between Yami Bakura and Marik, due to the fact they're both millenium items wielders and the subject Yami Bakura wants to talk about is the millenium items, so they have a private conversation about it, it starts studying each other and gather Intel through dialogue, so we get reveals of who knows more about the millenium items, Marik says his objective is to kill Yugi (Dark Yugi and the original Yugi) and offers a proposal whether Yami Bakura is to join him or be killed (but that would result in a millenium duel), Yami Bakura joins Marik but with the main objective to gather more info and Yami Bakura "borrows" his host to Marik...

Key Points:

image.png image.png

It seems not only are they betting two puzzle cards as also two rare cards, Jounouchi bets on the rare cards he gained in the tournament, he feels hyped for having an audience and we know how he gets in these kind of situations...
I find interesting, Jounouchi became well known between duelists\Magic and Wizards fan community, those more experienced get a little curious about Jounouchi, not bad for Jounouchi as he gained some reputation thanks to Duelist Kingdom ;).

 image.png

Here we are presented Jounouchi's flaws when he gets carried away who tends to try to act cool, but he learns a very important lesson with this duel, it helps him shaping up to not only become a better and experienced player and starts to build his own principles as a player and as a duelist and will affect him as person.

The Release Date of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions DVD&Blu-Ray was announced!

I'm a tiny bit late because the news was announced in 24th October in the japanese official website of Yu-Gi-Oh! 20th Anniversary...(the only website in english that was updated on this news is wikipedia, not the fandom wikia)...
The Blu-Ray and DVD of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimension will be released in Japan on 8th March 2017

bluray_and_DVD_release_date.jpg
click this this link for further details if you can read japanese...

There is more details around here if you go after the link, I can't read Japanese so I used the google translate but I got the general idea, it seems is given exclusives if you pre-order for a limited time in certain stores, for example in Amazon of Japan you seem to get one or 3 B2 poster sizes of the characters or one of them (Kaiba, Yugi and Aigami) , one has a T-shirt, but there is a standard in all stores for the pre-order, Transcend Game one-shots (however I'm confused if is a digital version or printed version, but I think it is a digital version).
I'm posting this because it seems many people doesn't seem know...

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 3 (Battle City Break part 3)

Another break, there is a lots of events, there is 1 duel but is too quick, it will be hard to write a summary because it has so many events.

Plot Summary:

We left off in Dark Yugi's victory, after the duel ended and the doll stopped moving for some time, and Mokuba as chairman committee, pick up Slifer The Sky Dragon god card for Dark Yugi, now he has a god card as well, the egyptian god which represents Osiris.
Kaiba being the impatient person he is, he is about to challenge Dark Yugi and they're interrupted by "Silent Doll" Marik, who informs Dark Yugi that he has three types of views, one of them is that he sees through the doll, the other is in the road and last through a rare hunter who is watching his friends and Jounouchi, and hints indirectly at the chance of brainwashing them, with this Dark Yugi starts to panic, and Marik leaves the "Silent Doll"'s mind.
Dark Yugi is about to leave and Kaiba asks him if he is running away from the duel with him and Dark Yugi replies he can't let his friends die and leaves, as he searches for his friends and Jounouchi with no success, finds himself blocked by two rare hunters, they challenge him and the two men tries to decide who comes first with scissor-paper-rock, but it's always a tie, irritating Dark Yugi and Kaiba shows up again and challenges the two rare hunters to a tag team pairing up with Dark Yugi, but Kaiba makes it quick, the chances he gets to summons Obelisk (to show off -.-") is right off the bat.

As Marik watching through the rare hunter and arrives Domino City, getting closer and driving like crazy without caring for people's safety, while Ryou Bakura is sensing something as Anzu calls him out and Sugoroku is commenting how well Jounouchi is doing in the tournament and having 4 puzzle cards, so he is close to the finals, and looking forward to duel against Dark Yugi and continue their conversation about the current state of the tournament.
Jounouchi uses a device in the Duel Disk to detect others duel disks by 50 meters called Duelist Search Sensor (could come up with a better name, non?), quickly detected a duelist close by, so Jounouchi follows running as the others catch up except for Ryou Bakura meaning Yami Bakura is taking over with the Millenium Ring detecting a new millenium item and sensing someone is coming and steal  someone's duel disk to illegally participate in the tournament (so many illegal participants...).
Jounouchi and gang finding themselves in a Aquarium, meeting there with Ryota Kajiki, previous Dark Yugi's opponent in Duelist Kingdom and Jounouchi challenges him to a duel and Ryota accepts it.

Key Points:

image.png

Kaiba's standards are always high even towards his rival, it has to be at his level (-.-"), he is really obsessive and extremely competitive when comes to his favourite TCG.

image.jpg image.png

I really like Dark Yugi's awkward expression in the panel when Mokuba is giving Slifer The Sky Dragon and puzzle card, it's so cute seeing him feeling awkward, but why was he feeling awkward?
He knows Mokuba well enough to not feel awkward, it might be because a little kid being one of the judges to be sure no one is breaking rules and knows well, etc and behaving quite friendly with him as well.
Dark Yugi contemplating for having a god card, he must feel surprised and impressed by the card...
The funny thing he isn't much about getting powerful cards, but favor to the more useful and make it up for good strategies, since he has more of a tactician mindset but...

image.jpg
from this line, he seems pretty happy about it to have such a powerful and a god card.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 2 (Dark Yugi VS Silent Doll "Marik")

This post will be a brief summary of the duel (not transcription) and the keys points, I want to compensate for these months for not post anything, by becoming more active (since these lasts months has been busy preventing me from being active).

Plot Summary:

As you remember, I left off in the previous post, Silent Doll "Marik" challenging Dark Yugi, who accepts the challenge.
The duel starts as both duelists testing the waters, then Marik makes metaphor of his strength as a duelist as he advances with his strategy and cornering Dark Yugi to the point of facing Slifer The Sky Dragon, Dark Yugi at first feels terrified for some time but tries to fight back, as he is about to lose the will to fight, Kaiba appears (who received info from his company for detecting Slifer The Sky Dragon) and tell him as his rival not to lose to anyone but Kaiba himself, Kaiba notices the difficulty Dark Yugi is facing and gives an interesting advice, Dark Yugi gets back on track...displays a good amount of skill with a very smart move.
The duels ends with Dark Yugi's victory!

Key Points:

image.png image.png

Both of them have such huge egos, so funny, it's funny and amusing really when Dark Yugi says "You can catch me...but can you beat me?", that's his overconfidence and ego, and cheesy phrases from an overconfident character, then when his opponent praises his skills he goes quiet not of nervosism, just plain serious, usually when someone praises you, you would say thanks, makes me think why he doesn't it? is he acting humble or to not let flattery get to him? or his ego is so big because of something he already knows and thinks he is very skilled himself? we have to remember his pride and confidence mostly bases on his skills...but he is not aware yet of his own weaknesses yet, at least not completely, there is others, we will explore it in this post a little.
I think is more about not getting flattery get to him and at the same time is super confident that his skills are superior than most players, he can be so contradicting sometimes, probably because is uncommon an overconfident person and character with reserved personality without being snotty but generally a good person, strong sense of justice and righteous, he has unusual combination of traits.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.20-26 Part 1 (Battle City Break Part 2)

I finished the first part of Battle City, but this time I will be covering 7 volumes, the duels around this time are longer therefore plenty of duels which starts at the end of a volume, however not making transcriptions of the duels hasn't changed, I will still make a small summary of it and focusing more on the plot and the characters.

In the english licensed version is "Duelist"vol.13-19.
For being a Battle City Break, the main focus will be Yugi and Dark Yugi.

Plot Summary:

We left off with the end of the duel of Jounouchi against Haga, as a result with Jounouchi's victory.
The second part of Battle City starts with Kaiba Corp using their surveillance system to find the god cards around the participants but with no success since the wielder of Slifer The Sky Dragon hasn't dueled yet...then transitions to Marik just arriving to a port close to Domino City (80km of difference), discussing the plans with his subjects, informing he won't be on the sidelines anymore but still in hiding as he rides in his moto getting himself ready for the duel including his "silent doll".
The scene changes again starting to focus on Dark Yugi and Yugi conversations, their conversation will be interrupted by Marik through his "silent doll" and challenges Dark Yugi.

(what a small summary I just wrote...)

Key Points:

image.png image.png

That's some technology right there, Kaiba! Kaiba's obsession with games is impressive, specially when it comes to Duel Monsters/Magic and Wizards, he can grow a bit impatient...but it shows that even Kaiba without being in the building, the company can work pretty well independently, Kaiba could give himself a vacations once in awhile because sometimes he seems he doesn't take any vacations.

3.png 4.png

Kaiba is quite straight to the point even to his employees, he is quite confident about the technology of his company, he does trust his employees enough to do the job they were hired for (such a practical way of thinking), but Kaiba having plenty of fighting spirit and quite passionate about games makes him the type of leader who goes to the front lines.
We get some info about their technology, the surveillance system being the same as the U.S. military, when Kaiba goes big, he really goes big, at least he doesn't have big delusions of grandeur (only some of it xD).

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.18-19 Part 5 (Jounouchi VS Insector Haga)

This time it will be a bit smaller than the previous, but the summary might be a bit long.

Plot Summary:

We left off with Marik getting closer to Domino City, so the scene changes in focusing Anzu, Sugoroku (Yugi's grandfather) and Ryou Bakura searching for Yugi and Jounouchi and not having much success, comes the time for lunch, Anzu remembers where Jounouchi might be, Beef Burger.
The scene changes to the location of where Jounouchi is as Anzu suspected, Jounouchi eating with his duel disk still on his arm without considering it might be hurting others around him as he eats, a man who he accidentally snapped in the face called him out, Jounouchi feels offended for being called out of not removing his duel disk and the owner of the Beef Burger called him out as well, Jounouchi listen to him because he has given him free pickles (I don't think it's the only reason, I 'll approach this rude behaviour).
After Jounouchi removes his duel disk and put on the table, a kid was passing by and steals Jounouchi's duel disk, Jounouchi notices straight away, leaves his pay and left the restaurant to go after the kid and quickly catches him as his friends caught up with him.
The kid tells a sob story as he lost a duel, he lost his deck and duel disk, Jounouchi buys the story while the others specially Sugoroku is giving the benefit of doubt, suspicious, Jounouchi is decided to duel against this person, they do have an interesting conversation between Jounouchi and Anzu, sharing a tidbit of the current state of Shizuka, even though the surgery was a success but Shizuka is scared to take off the bandages, Anzu to Jounouchi "reporting" Honda went on some trip, Jounouchi knowing full well Honda, he understood straight away where he went...
A scene transition goes to the kid thief talking with another kid, this other kid reveals to be Insector Haga who orchestrated the whole thing to put one of Haga cards, a parasite card in Jounouchi's deck, with the condition of giving a rare card to the thief kid, unsurprisingly Insector Haga given a "common" card (so he lied), the thief kid calls out and Haga attacks him with a bug killer to his eyes and leaves to prepare himself for the duel...
Jounouchi meets Haga and the duel starts, right at the first turn, Jounouchi got his parasite card and was automatically special summoned due to it's effect and activates it's player field effect, from the start Jounouchi is in a corner, as the duel goes on, there plenty transition scenes between this duel and Honda going to the Hospital to pick up Shizuka followed by Otogi Ryuji and convince Shizuka to go with them to give courage to Jounouchi since Jounouchi is dueling to do the same for her.
The duel ends with Jounouchi's victory.

Key Points:

image.png image.png

I want to mention this titbit scene which talks about their daily life a little bit, Anzu mentions while blushing a little(it could be from feeling tired from walking searching for Yugi and Jounouchi) and expressing her opinion that Yugi should get a cell phone is interesting, indicating Yugi isn't much for technology unless there is games involved...he needs to reorganize his priorities a little...
Honda not telling he is picking up Shizuka just to surprise Jounouchi and them, another cute titbit from Bakura, he participates in campaigns and write the plots for these tabletop RPGs campaigns, which later Anzu reflects on it as "seems like everybody's drifting apart these days...", it's natural, you're all in 2nd year High School, one wonders what's Yugi future...as profession (Jounouchi for me is kinda easy, it's what he always have been doing as part-time jobs, Anzu - we already know to be a dancer, Honda I suppose I can have a guess it will be something similar to Jounouchi or something else, Bakura might be related to RPGs or game designer of RPGs, Otogi Ryuji is easy because he already works as game designer, Kaiba is electronic gaming engineer and president of KaibaCorp, but Yugi is a real mystery for me because he has so much potential and promise yet he always not thought of his future until recently because of the circumstances regarding the spirit of the pharaoh he is hosting made him think about his own future, but what kind? I have a feeling the end of Dark Side of Dimensions movie will give a glimpse).

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.18-19 Part 4 (Dark Yugi VS Pandora)

This one will be a bit longer than the previous post (a lot of foreshadowing moments, plot focus, points I want to discuss).

Plot Summary:

In the previous post, Dark Yugi had arrived at one of the secret bases of the Rare Hunters Ghouls inside a card store, Pandora The Conjurer challenged Dark Yugi to a duel to test who is the true master of Dark Magician/Black Magician.
Pandora guides Dark Yugi to a duel arena and they start shuffle their own cards and then of each other with some little discussion about how you treat the cards by how you shuffle, Dark Yugi tells Pandora using shotgun shuffle damages the cards, when they put in their positions for the duel, shackles on their feet and a carbide tipped saw blade appears and rolling and advances as you lose life points, if your LP reach 0 then the player who loses the duel has their legs chopped and eventually die if no ambulance comes...
Dark Yugi is deeply affected by this game of death (will be approached in the key points) and the duel starts, it gets more intense, even some unusual events happens, when Pandora activates a spell card affects the whole field (inluding the opponent) is willing to sacrifice his own Dark Magician and other monster card to take away Dark Yugi life points, Dark Yugi could have used on his own Dark Magician, but Dark Yugi's Dark Magician shielded Dark Yugi on his own will, it's an unusual event and as the duel reaches it's end, it comes the debut of an iconic card in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dark Magician Girl/Black Magician Girl leading to victory for Dark Yugi.
Carbide saw blade is getting closer to chop Pandora's legs, Dark Yugi is free from the shackles and gets a puzzle card, Pandora had safeguarded a key copy, he is about to remove from his wrist with the duel disk, then Marik comes to his mind and removes the image of the key and feel of the key in his hand, Yugi takes over of his own body and saves Pandora, Marik introduces himself to Yugi (he is aware of 2 entities) and a very interesting conversation between Marik and Yugi.
After this conversation, Yugi finally reaches a decision...and Marik approaching Domino City on a boat.

Key Points:

image.png image.png
image.jpg

I was patiently waiting for this chance for this key point to write about, look how Dark Yugi is reacting to this life and death duel, he was someone who mentally scarred others and killed a fugitive from justice (but his life was in danger as well plus the hostages, I'll give legitimate defense, the gun was pointed at him, it was kinda fair) for protection or fear of losing (Kaiba's duel in Duelist Kingdom), when he asks "is this fun for you?" and a little lower in his voice, in the panel hiding his face a little, and asks again in a clearer voice tone "I'm asking you, is it fun? A battle that kills people...", while hiding half of it as in deep thought when asks in the panel, then comes to Dark Yugi saying "Then I'll take you..." as he looks down in deep thoughts "...to the very edge of your life!" to Pandora.
I had to describe this scene in detail, because these panels alone show big character development on Dark Yugi part, the moments when he asks and hides his face and looks down a little, it expresses Dark Yugi may not speak of it or not show his deepest thoughts to the readers but by looking at the early volumes of what he has done to this duel, it reveals duels against Kaiba and Pegasus, specially the information about the millenium items having evil intelligence had a huge impact on him and he feels a lot of guilt and regret because this very duel it is mirrored at him of his shadow games but as he tries maintaining his sense of justice.
Dark Yugi has been realizing and slowly admitting recently since Duelist Kingdom, his sense of justice is flawed and so is his own self but is a big step for him to evolve and expand himself and so is his ethics like his pride evolved into integrity as I explained before in the duel against rare hunter exodia post , he is learning about.his own flaws, but does he hate himself for the things he did in past and had forgiven himself? I don't know, but one thing is clear, recognizing and learning from his mistakes, he tries to be the best of himself and keep his integrity.
I want to feature a post on Tumblr that inspired to write this section like I did about this Dark Yugi/Atem character development tumblr post of this scene.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.18-19 Part 3 (Battle City Break)

This is a little break from Battle City being more plot focus, I think the summary will be small, it might mean a small post like the previous one, just a bit smaller....

Plot Summary:

We left Jounouchi leaving from his first duel ending with his victory, as Jounouchi leaves the scene, the background changes and focus on other part of Domino City,  players discussing about the antes, Koji "spider" Nagumo comes back claiming the card of his opponent ante isn't enough compensate for his rare card and force his opponent to pay (it's ridiculous), Mokuba appears as steering committee chairman of the tournament to stop the current disagreement and evaluate the situation if is fair or not, Mokuba informs the ante rare value are the same, Koji seeing not going his way he threatens Mokuba that he makes his own rules, then Seto Kaiba shows up...
Seto Kaiba claims is shocked Koji demands so much from ante, then Kaiba rips Koji's ante card and challenges him to a duel and to compensate for ripping his ante card, gives his card case full of rare cards and even gives him a chance to using them to improve his deck, Koji being too confident (forgetting Kaiba might have even rarer cards in his deck being Kaiba), Kaiba shows off his God card, Obelisk leaving the Koji's previous opponent and Koji very shocked.
The scene transitions again to another with a Rare Hunter informing Marik they detected who currently has the Obelisk God card (being Kaiba), so it's open some discussion and revealing informition (and misinformation), Marik reveals he goes personally to Domino City to get the God card himself and ask them to keep Yugi (Dark Yugi busy) with Pandora.
Once again the scene changes in focusing on Yugi and Dark Yugi searching for rare hunters and they have an interesting conversation and got an idea where one of the rare hunters might be, the card game store, they arrive, the door was opened and so they enter and Dark Yugi next opponent reveal himself to Dark Yugi being Pandora and like Yugi, an owner of a Black Magigian/Dark Magician, they discuss a little and Dark Yugi accepting Pandora's challenge.

Keys Points:

Look who is back? Koji "spider" Nagumo, now for anyone who have read the first 7 volumes would recognize him, I forgot to mention him when I had the chance around volume 6 (I'll add more details about the Monster Fight arc in the proper post after I finish the whole manga analysis), I think he was a bit important to Yugi's development and also presenting Yugi's current flaws he is currently trying to overcome.
Even after his Penalty Game with Dark Yugi, he hasn't change much or picking on weaker ones and proves that most of Dark Yugi Penalty games aren't permanent like the others (with one exception to the prisoner which was death), sadly for him he will mess with the wrong person again...and some stupid players still with this "I'll beat you so bad you'll never duel again" as something cool and respect...when it's actually the other way around, good grief...

I think is very interesting, Mokuba playing a role as referee of the tournament and he is doing a pretty good job as a neutral party (so cute too :3), it shows good character development because he isn't as vicious as he was before or "cheating" like he did with the capsule monsters and russian roulette, it shows the events of Duelist Kingdom had big effect on him and Yugi & Co was a huge influence on him.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.18-19 Part 2 (Battle City Begins - Jounouchi VS Espa Roba)

This will be again a post with the same length as the previous one, focusing on key details of the duel, let's get on the summary plot of the post...

Plot Summary:

We left off Jounouchi asking Dark Yugi to hold his Red Eyes Black Dragon to take as opportunities to get strong enough to get it back and to duel against Dark Yugi, a learning experience, Dark Yugi gladly accepts the request and challenge.
Jounouchi and Dark Yugi goes separate ways to find their next opponents, it focus on Jounouchi seeing a crowd of duelists watching a duel between Dino Ryuzaki and Esper Roba, victory going to Esper Roba, Jounouchi challenges Esper Roba.
Esper Roba accepts his challenge and the duel starts, Jounouchi makes a small mistake on forgetting Battle City Tournament requires super expert rules (sacrificing a lower level monster to summon a high level monster - level 5 and over), Roba claims having psychic powers and be able to get what cards Jounouchi has, the duel comes to for a real start.
In the process of the duel, Jounouchi discovers Esper Roba is actually a fake psychic on his own by noticing a small mistake from his opponent or "his psychic powers", the readers get to know who are the "psychic powers" being Esper Roba little brothers... as the duel goes on, during the duel reveals Jounouchi's deck is a Gamble deck, in other words, totally relies mostly on luck.
The duel ends with the victory on Jounouchi's side, we get Esper Roba reaction to his defeat showing some more of his characterization and an interesting discussion between the two players and ending with a strong message.

Jounouchi sees as steps in becoming a true duelist, according to Jounouchi's steps in becoming a "true duelist", I'll interpret it as becoming active in duelists community, taking initiative by challenging those who are a duelist  in front of you and seem stronger than him, steps in becoming a better and become a more experienced player, Jounouchi is already starting building his own definition of "true duelist", since each individual is different, of course will be different it's definition, Jounouchi own way starts shaping up from here...

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.18-19 Part 1 (Battle City Begins - Dark Yugi VS Rare Hunter Exodia Deck)

We are finally on volumes 18-19 and licensed version in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist vol.11-12, starting Battle City story arc, this is gonna be a long ride, because this story arc is huge, the posts will be smaller for a awhile until comes the most important duels.

Plot Summary:

We left off on Jounouchi have his Red Eyes Black Dragon stolen by rare hunters before the day of the tournament, the next day comes starting off with Dark Yugi and Yugi have been building their deck all night, they talk a little before going to the center of Domino City for the the rules to be explained, even Sugoroku Mutou closes his Kame Game Shop to watch the tournament.
Dark Yugi is waiting at meeting place for the rules of the tournament to be revealed and wondering where is Jounouchi since he doesn't seem to be in sight and encounters Mai, she was wondering the same thing about Jounouchi.
Kaiba suddenly appears in all TVs of the city, including an airship flying around with a plasma tv (this guy sure loves to go big), explains the rules of the tournament and informs Kaiba himself will play in the same conditions as them, once finished the tournament begins.
Jounouchi suddenly appears approaching a man in a coffee shop reading in his portable pc, challenging him and revealing he is a rare hunter as will get back his Red-Eyes, the man refuses, Dark Yugi is shocked by this and intervenes being himself to challenge him and duel against the rare hunter.
The duel starts, Jounouchi tries to warn of his exodia deck to Dark Yugi, but he reveals some of his principles, I'll talk about in the key points, during the first two turns, Dark Yugi finds strange the rare hunter playing style by putting only defensive monsters, not attacking and making it draw more cards, in 3 turns Dark Yugi figure out his strategy of the rare hunter exodia deck, in 2 turns, Dark Yugi defeats the rare hunter and his deck technically, this duel was very small, Dark Yugi finished him very quickly, the main villain named Marik introduces himself through mind control of this rare hunter he just defeated.
Dark Yugi is about to give it back and Jounouchi refuses and tells him his reasons (it will approached in the key points), so to a point when gets Red-Eyes back by dueling against Dark Yugi.

Key Points:

I really like these two panels, specially when he mentions the "those two boys", remember he saw Jounouchi leaving, so he isn't referring to Jounouchi and Yugi but it was Yugi and Dark Yugi, making it more obvious that he is more aware than he is letting on, the way mentions them, he sees Dark Yugi as his grandson as well, to him it's like having two grandsons, it's very cute.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.16-17 Part 3 (Prologue of Battle City)

This one might be just as long as the previous one, it's when the plot starts to move at full charge, there is important events regarding characters and their relationships and development.

Plot Summary:

In the last post I left when Jounouchi just saved Yugi from the fire, after this event Yugi stays in the hospital to be treated and healed while Jounouchi had minor injuries so he doesn't need to sleep in the hospital, Yugi is playing Duel Monsters/Magic&Wizards with Jounouchi, Anzu feels relieved Yugi survived the fire and feels grateful for Jounouchi being able to save him, Yugi and friends share their thoughts for Yugi finishing the puzzle so quick, leaving Anzu in deep reflection about the situation regarding Yugi and Dark Yugi and the recent info revealed by Pegasus, an old man who is Yugi's hospital room-mate calls him out about an article on the newspaper getting the attention from Yugi, an egyptian woman who's from the Egypt government with an millenium item quickly realized by Yugi and Ryou Bakura, millenium tauk, who is holding an Egypt antiquities exhibit in Domino Museum by name of Ishizu Ishtarl.
By night time, changes into Kaiba arriving at Domino Museum to meet up with Ishizu, Ishizu  introduces herself and summarizes her job, Kaiba tells her he is only interested in creating gaming technology and not in history, Ishizu reveals the origin of Duel Monsters in a ancient egyptian palette and same kind of palette showing figures of what looks like Yugi wearing the puzzle with Dark/Black Magician and Kaiba with Blue Eyes White Dragon, Kaiba is shocked and in denial for a while, also reveals Pegasus created 3 Egyptian God cards, one of a kind each, the most powerful cards in Duel Monsters/Magic&Wizards were sealed in the valley of the kings for being too powerful, Ishizu informs him 2 cards were stolen by Rare Hunters Ghouls, a group that collect rare cards and sell in the black market, she gives to Kaiba the only one she was able to save from this group, "Obelisk, The Tormentor" and claims she trusts Kaiba, slightly suggests him to host a tournament to attract this group in getting the missing 2 cards...
The next day at the rooftop of Domino Hospital, watching the view while waiting for his friends to pick him up and talking to Dark Yugi, Yugi talks about what Yami Bakura and asks him if Dark Yugi knows anything about it and wonders to him if he is a king, Dark Yugi replies he doesn't know, he just knows exists in Yugi through the puzzle, they have an emotional moment and Yugi tries to dodge the subject saying he wants to leave the hospital early, Dark Yugi makes notice to Yugi their friends arrived early as well as they arrive at the hospital.
The scene transitions to Kaiba testing the new version of the duel disk and the Egyptian God card and challenges the deck used in Duelist Kingdom...
The week passes with Dark Yugi questioning his existence to Sunday, Yugi dressing himself for Anzu, trying to follow Dark Yugi's goth-punk fashion sense so  he could make Dark Yugi take over, setting a "date" with Anzu because Yugi has been sensing Dark Yugi brooding...Anzu is feeling quite nervous for this "date", Dark Yugi arrives, Anzu jolts and blushes, they start the "date", Anzu and Dark Yugi share thoughts at some parts during the time spent and Dark Yugi confesses what is truly going on with him and says he knows where he wants and needs to go, the Domino Museum to see their exhibit, there they discover Dark Yugi is actually a soul of a pharaoh sealed in the millenium puzzle and they meet Ishizu Ishtarl, revealing some bits what is needed for him to restore his memories and future that soon she will meet an enemy with the last millenium item, they exit the museum, Dark Yugi asks Anzu to not talk about what they discover at the museum with Yugi.
Dark Yugi and Anzu still in front of the museum, Dark Yugi realizes they're surrounded by duelists, they find Mai, greet each other, both sharing some info, Kaiba appears to announce that he is hosting a Duel Monsters/Magic&Wizards tournament and informs the rules and conditions of the tournament.
Next day, Yugi and Anzu reveals about the tournament to Jounouchi and the others, after school they go to a card game store, Yugi has the highest level in skill so he gets a duel disk for free, while Jounouchi is level 2, you can only be over level 5 to enter, revealing Kaiba is selecting his contestants, the store owner notices Jounouchi has an ultra rare card (Red Eyes Black Dragon), the store owner suspiciously hacked and put Jounouchi on Level 5, after they leave the store to Yugi's house to discuss about Jounouchi's deck, the store owner calls the rare hunters.
When Jounouchi leaves Yugi's house is already at night, as Jounouchi walks by an alley to go home, he meets rare hunters and one of them challenges him to a duel and he loses and his Red Eyes Black Dragon by a rare hunter who owned an "Exodia, The Forbiden One" completed, the tournament still hadn't started, so it was an unofficial duel for the act of putting the rule of ante...

Key Points:

image.png image.jpg

In this scene Anzu is feeling relieved, I think it was more towards Yugi, after all Yugi is her childhood friend, like I said, childhood friends usually gets special treatment, also there is her romantic feelings developing slowly for Yugi, she expresses gratitude to Jounouchi in her own way but her comment Jounouchi being really thick-skinned rings true figuratively and physically (pffft), physically is obvious due to his delinquent and harsh background and being very athletic, on a metaphorical side of it, even though when others (specially Kaiba) taunts (except Yugi) Jounouchi, he may be easily provoked by Kaiba but isn't easy to get him feeling down, even though his fake confidence was crushed by Kaiba before but he gradually got up on his own, now he is not as easily and strongly affected by Kaiba, he may get angered but don't act on it, holds back as well.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.16-17 Part 2 (Dungeon Dice Monsters Part 2)

I'm warning you already, this post is gonna be huge according to the amount of pictures I selected, it may become comparable to the duel Dark Yugi and Yugi VS Pegasus post...

Plot Summary:

In the previous post we left off Yugi being thrown to a dark room by a security guard in Black Clown store, Yugi finds Otogi Ryuji waiting for him to play the game he designed himself, D.D.M. - Dungeon Dice Monsters- , Ryuji doesn't explain all the rules to Yugi before they even start (tch, figures), Yugi learns all the rules and necessary information by Ryuji and insight through the progress of the game, when Yugi grows more determined, he is starting to catch up, Ryuji reveals he is after his millenium puzzle to become the king of games and his father (Mr.Otogi, the clown) plus Sugoroku backstory between master and pupil.
Yugi starts taking the lead, Mr Otogi irritated by this, he suddenly shows up and breaks the millenium puzzle to break Yugi's will to fight, with this turn of events, the millenium ring in Bakura's necklace senses something wrong with the puzzle and the spirit of the ring comes back again, Honda is walking with his dog and sees Bakura entering the Black Clown store, security guards blocking Yami Bakura and he knocks them out through the power of the millenium ring, as Yugi picks up, Ryuji helps pick them up, Otogi challenges to them solve the puzzle by whoever wins, Yugi starts losing the lead, then Yami Bakura showing his support to Yugi for his own reasons and confirming Yugi is the true host of the millenium puzzle, Sugoroku and Yugi's friends starts getting worried and Honda warned them about Yami Bakura coming back.
Thanks to Yami Bakura giving some encouragement and making sure Yugi's will to fight for his millenium puzzle was back on track, Yugi wins splendidly, Yami Bakura did something to one of the pieces of the puzzle to put a bit of his soul in it to spy on it once the puzzle would be completed and give it to Yugi, Ryuji calling out his father about his revenge and see the error of his ways, mr.Otogi pretended to regret it, he puts the necklace of the millenium puzzle and at this same moment stifles Yugi and drags him to a secret door that can only open from the inside, forcing him to play a forbidden game he played years ago against Sugoroku, allows you to age quicker as you advance the game (Sugoroku won) but as way in trying to kill Yugi and get the puzzle for himself, but before so he nailed the chains of the puzzle to a table where was a board game on top, Mr. Otogi tries to solve the puzzle but as he tries, the millenium puzzle drags him to some sort of labyrinth, panicking for sensing danger and loses balance, because the only light were candle, some of the candles falls and a fire starts...
Yugi and mr.Otogi can't open the secret door, they're stuck, fire starting on mr.Otogi, Yugi advises him to roll on the floor to help the fire disappear, he was surprised by Yugi's kindness after what he has done to him, they start screaming for help, Yugi's friends arrive and Bakura back to normal plus Ryuji, Honda and Jounouchi are able to break the door and save mr.Otogi, but Yugi insists on saving the puzzle, Jounouchi stays with Yugi to make sure they get out alive, Yugi begins solving the puzzle and in a few minutes he completed and lost consciousness, the fire was starting to surround them, Yugi strongly holding the puzzle, Jounouchi desperate, he heard Dark Yugi's voice and seem to have given idea how to unnail the chains and it works, Jounouchi get out of the fire while holding Yugi to bring themselves back to safety.

(what a big summary...)

Key Points:

image.png

I find Yugi choices of dices of type of monsters interesting, the black dice has unknown special kind of monsters and unknown, but the known colors monsters types dices gets me thinking, according to the info about types of monsters each color represent, Yugi choses between Warriors and Spellcasters, if we think about it, that's Yugi's deck tendency as well and few others types, to be honest, I would chose the same ones as Yugi.

image.png image.png

It's very telling how well Yugi's friends know Yugi, they're very sure he is around, another detail about Jounouchi I like, Jounouchi has a pretty good intuition and they aren't easy to fool when comes to Yugi, Jounouchi and Ryou obviously suspect something is wrong and to the readers about some info on Yugi's habits when comes to his hobbies, from how Jounouchi's claims:

"He'd go without food for a day before he'd give up on a game!"

It got me thinking, it's possible Yugi may have sacrificed his allowances to buy games (I do it often to save money so I can buy video games), he may have done a few times from Jounouchi claim...
I take priority on my lunch if I'm at school or work and save money, it seems Yugi may have a bit of impulsive shopping when comes to games.
Ryou Bakura also has good intuition, he starts getting suspicious of the store and worried, in the panel, he isn't wearing the millenium ring at the same time foreshadowing future events.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.16-17 Part 1 (Dungeon Dice Monsters Part 1)

Duelist Kingdom ended, starts a small arc serving the purpose to introduce a new character, character development for Yugi will keep going, good challenges to test and explore his strength and potential, the same can be said as person as well...
anyway, we're on volume 16 and 17 already, in western prints is Duelist Volume 9 and 10.
There will be three posts about these 2 volumes, just these 2 volumes, there is a lot to write about, Part 1 will be the prologue of Dungeon Dice Monsters, Part 2 will be the game itself and Part 3 will be the Prologue of Battle City, look forward to it, I will keep doing summaries first so I can touch on the details.

Plot Summary:

After Duelist Kingdom, a few weeks has passed, the volume 16/9 starts with Sugoroku sighing, who seems to look distressed about something, Anzu arrives to pick Yugi up, Sugoroku calls Yugi out for Anzu had come to walk him to school, transitioning to Yugi and Dark Yugi, with these weeks and now the spirit and host being able to talk to each other, it happens often Dark Yugi teases Yugi and give him fashion tips, Yugi's mother even has been noticing something, Yugi's reveals to Anzu his new necklace chain representing the bond between Yugi and spirit of the millenium puzzle.
Before Yugi and Anzu go to school, Sugoroku confesses a new game store just opened, close to put Sugoroku game store out of business, the Black Clown, when they're leaving Yugi curious trying to take a look at the display of the new game store, suddenly a clown appears giving children balloons and trying to give one to Anzu and politely refuses, when they leave, the clown and a young boy appears to his side watching Yugi and Anzu leaving, revealing being father and son, who seem to hold a grudge against Yugi and Sugoroku and wants to revenge Sugoroku through Yugi.
The school is about to start and they are possibly on break of a class, there is a new student(the young boy and son of the clown) and is revealed by Honda they moved to 2nd year of High School, the new student seems to be drawing attention to the girls in their class named Ryuji Otogi, Jounouchi gets jealous of him being popular and then Jounouchi starts boasting about his performance in Duelist Kingdom, catching Otogi attention, he challenges Jounouchi to a game, without Jounouchi knowing being a shell game (a rigged game, basically).
Since it were a rigged games, the four aces plus dice and cup, Jounouchi lost all of them, once the deal of the bet was going too far, Dark Yugi interferes, who challenges Otogi to a bit different game from Four Aces, adding the card Joker, in order to make a fair game becoming it a game of sheer luck, Dark Yugi obviously wins, clearing Jounouchi from the deal of the bet.
The Black Clown grand opening day event, there is a lot of crowd, Yugi gets mixed in the crowd being small and pushed and indirectly kidnapped in being unjustly accused of theft, purposely taking away his millenium puzzle and put him in a dark room, technically this was kidnapping, a very planned one, I must say.

Key Points:

image.png image.png

I love this scene, it doesn't fail me to make me laugh, Dark Yugi teasing Yugi like a sibling usually does, now they're more conscious of one another as an entity of their own, specially Yugi, Dark Yugi is already fully aware he is an entity of his own, the others not fully (Honda, Jounouchi and Bakura will take longer, much longer), Yugi and Anzu are closest to it.
For Yugi talking to Dark Yugi became part of his daily life, as if Dark Yugi being a new member of the family to Yugi (same applies to Sugoroku), this scene reveals Dark Yugi is quite the peachshipper, he knows Yugi has a crush on Anzu to the point of him giving advices, fashion advices (so funny), Dark Yugi also got used to this rather quickly to tease Yugi and calls Yugi not other self but partner, after all all it is 2 entities sharing the same body.
What I find interesting about this bond of host and spirit of the millenium puzzle, what would you see in other mangas, you would see the main character is the host and evil spirit is an antagonist - it's very common, in this series case, Dark Yugi is to protect his host and friends and has good intentions, he is a spirit of someone who is already deceased, they get along very well, they behave like siblings even in appearance they look like siblings (it's so cute and very funny).
About Yugi's family, I don't usually mention it, but since it's the last time we'll see his mother, and didn't wrote before, this is my chance, from the times we have seen his mother in the manga and Sugoroku, give us the assumption Yugi lives only with his mother and grampa, but where is his father?, in this excerpt of an interview Kazuki Takahashi reveals he is working overseas on business, which make us realize, from this information, Yugi's father is almost always absent but in some other info about it that his father sends him gifts sometimes, besides being an only child with an absent father, mother and grandfather (likely on his father side, from the looks of it, because his mother doesn't have tricolered hair, Sugoroku as we know a bit more about him, he shares the same hairstyle and tricolored hair, we can assume is just the spiky tricolored hair is genetic, we can assume Yugi's father has the same hairstyle...), mostly raised by his mother and grandfather, Yugi grows up not having much who he can look up to and see as a role model he can relate to, Dark Yugi takes this role for Yugi.
Dark Yugi only thing he isn't currently aware of is how much Yugi influences him, there is a reason why Dark Yugi penalty games becomes softer, it's not just Dark Yugi, Jounouchi as well (a very big influence on him), Honda, Mai, Mokuba and very very very slowly Kaiba, the ones who are most aware are Jounouchi and Honda as revealed in Death-T and this post.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.12-15 Part 11 (End of Duelist Kingdom)

This is about the aftermath of the duel between Dark Yugi&Yugi VS Pegasus, the ending of this story arc...I'll still go for summary first even without a duel and the details later, I can organize my thoughts on the details better...(I think the previous post was a little sloppy).

Update (25/09/2018): I have finished all Duelist Kingdom Arc updates now, 😌, it kinda took me one day...the early volumes gonna take awhile to update because there will be more changes, but not too much since the main story is on it's early stages...

Plot Summary

The last duel of Duelist Kingdom ended, Pegasus releases Kaiba brothers and Yugi's grampa souls, they start to get Yugi's prize ready, Dark Yugi starts asking how much he knows about the millenium items, Pegasus gives a reveals and begins to tell his backstory...
It all started when he met his lover when they were young blossomed into romantic love, Cyndia died at 17 years, Pegasus haven't gotten through her death, he tried to search to overcame it in Egypt, entering a village of grave robbers where he meets a thief trying to steal the Millenium Ring, it was caught by some other men, Pegasus meets Shadi for the first time, Shadi guessed right about Pegasus's loss, Pegasus shocked by his knowledge, he follows him in secret, inside a normal home of the village, and there was an underground temple, they tested the millenium ring on the thief, he died...the men and Shadi were discussing mysterious matters about millenium items chosen bearers, then they caught Pegasus watching them, so they tested the Millenium Eye on him, he saw the spirit of Cyndia, but couldn't reach her since she was dead and he was still a mortal, end of Pegasus's backstory.
Dark Yugi reflects on the new information, his friends discuss about Pegasus, Mokuba awakes and they reveal to him Kaiba is on the island, Mr.Crocket arrives to give the prize money and Kaiba's duel disk while revealing the reason why Pegasus wanted Kaiba Corp, after they search for Kaiba in the castle and when they're about to try out outside, Kaiba appears, the Kaiba brothers have their brotherly moment, no boats for the gang to leave, Kaiba brothers let the gang and Mai in the helicopter to be even on debt for saving them and the Kaiba Corp, the story arc of Duelist Kingdom ends.

Key Points:

image.png image.png image.png

Pegasus as a villain can keep his promise, what we usually see most of the time in villains, they don't keep their promise or honour their promise, Pegasus has enough character to do this much, let's picture if was Bandit Keith, he wouldn't keep it, there is characters who wouldn't, Insector Haga, Player killers, despite Pegasus was a coward and cheater (sorry, no mercy), yet he followed his promise to Yugi, he has some calibre to a degree, I'll give him that, but comes from a bit of a cliché source, it will be discussed later in this post.

Thoughts&Observations | Mangá Vol.12-15 Part 10 (Dark Yugi&Yugi VS Pegasus)

This summary will be long...I'll try to make it short as possible...
(but the thoughts, observations and opinions makes it a long post with more pictures, let's say this duel is so important, there is a lot of details to take in)

Update (24/09/2018): I remember when I did write this analysis, it took me 3 days, making the panels ensembles were a pain too, since then I decided big duels like these should be divided in two parts, which is why the last duels of Battle City are divided in two, but the panels ensembles I had to re-do them because I lost most of them and re-upload them, it was tough, I redid 75 panels ensembles for this update, now is only missing the epilogue to finish off updating this Arc.

Plot Summary:

The previous post left off Jounouchi victory against Bandit Keith, Jounouchi confesses to Dark Yugi and Anzu, the duel felt to be his last and is aware he has no chance in beating Pegasus, so he asks if he can leave this kind of weight to Yugi, Dark Yugi immediately accepts it, now Dark Yugi has both honor cards to save his grampa, Kaiba brothers and Jounouchi's sister (that's a lot of weight), they don't feel the need to duel each other, Pegasus accepts to go to the final duel of Duelist Kingdom.
While Dark Yugi gets ready, Pegasus get out of his seat and go to the duel arena, on the way there, he meets Bandit Keith with knife threatening to give him the prize, Pegasus tells him he was aware of Bandit Keith cheating and will receive a penalty game, leaving Keith unconscious or likely dead.
Dark Yugi and Pegasus before sitting the table, their fighting spirits clashing seems noticeable to the viewers (Jounouchi and Anzu), they discuss the deal a little then they sit, shuffle each others decks and the duel starts...
Pegasus starts dominating the duel from the beginning, when Dark Yugi is at his lowest point mentally, he hears Yugi's voice, Yugi speaks up some revelations, even for Dark Yugi and us readers (I'll approach in detail), Yugi comes up with an idea to beat Pegasus, because he have been noticing Pegasus maybe can only read one mind at a time (it's quite true, when he was reading Keith and Jounouchi, if you look at the panel with the balloons saying "One of them"Keith and "The other one" Jounouchi), so he asks Dark Yugi to fight as well, Dark Yugi accepts it, Yugi makes the moves and Dark Yugi not knowing the cards Yugi put facedown, in other words, Yugi is the sword and Dark Yugi is the shield, Dark Yugi calls it Mind Shuffle as to beat Mind Scan, Dark Yugi comments about Yugi's skills and comparing to Pegasus.
After Pegasus's toons cards being defeated, Pegasus warns he'll start a shadow game, before starting, he informs a little how he came to create Duel Monsters/Magic and Wizards, where the inspiration came from, Shadow Game begins, Yugi being a human living being and young, his consciousness can't stand for long since his willpower/energy is giving the form to the monsters he summons, Dark Yugi rushes to take over, Yugi insisting to continue fighting, it goes like this until Yugi lose consciousness, his friends starts feeling scared their best friend could be almost dying, so Dark Yugi takes over, Pegasus planning this on purpose so he could read freely Dark Yugi's mind, again Pegasus starts cornering him, then his friends spirits starts blocking Pegasus's Mind Scan, from here on out Dark Yugi takes the lead of the duel to victory as Yugi slowly regaining his consciousness.

Key Points:

image.png image.png

I really liked this scene because Dark Yugi and Anzu are speaking up for Jounouchi he was able to win on his own, he should be proud of, Jounouchi slowly recognizing his growth as duelist, I do understand why, it was the final test of how much he learned in this tournament for him, he felt by winning this duel he passed test, to me his stage as a beginner has ended, he will start being intermediate level.
I think is interesting for them to think not be necessary, since both have a common goal, to not show more of their tactics to Pegasus would be the wise thing to do and...
